Gel Electrophoresis
Sickle cell is an inherited autosomal disease that causes hemoglobin to sickle or curve. Sickle cell is commonly found in those of African and Mediterranean decent. Hemoglobin electrophoresis has been used to test and has been used in diagnosis of this disease; however, in in most African and Mediterranean developing nations, the devices to achieve this test are exceptionally costly and hard to acquire. This experiment intends to make and build up a cost efficient electrophoresis device that developing nations like Africa can access. In this experiment a series of different gels were made utilizing a wide range of arrangements and kept running in a general electrophoresis unit. Further research is needed to determine a solid electrophoresis unit.
